SP3 London's Approach to International Design Projects

We’re able to offer and deliver full design management services for you and your project, delivering first class results.

SP3 London’s approach to international design projects

We know every project is different and requires its own approach to meet the needs and goals of our clients. Because of this, we don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach, instead we focus on the details of each project and tailor accordingly. This allows us to deliver innovative design solutions worldwide.

Our approach is based on three simple principles being collaboration, adaptability, and cultural awareness. By working with local teams and understanding global subtleties, we aim to create designs that resonate with the local area and meet the client’s objectives.

What are some challenges you face when working on design projects in different countries?

Working on international design projects can throw up some challenges. Knowing the local workforce and their regulations is key to project success.

Rules, regulations, construction methods and materials differ from one country to another and that’s why we take a collaborative approach to every project as we need to understand local subtleties in order to deliver effective solutions.

By getting under the skin of the local culture and building strong relationships with local stakeholders we can navigate the complexities and deliver projects to the highest standards of quality and sustainability.

How does SP3 London adapt its design approach to cultural and regulatory requirements of international markets?

At SP3 London we know international design projects require cultural and regulatory subtleties. To achieve this, we use a multi-faceted approach:

  • Cultural Adaptation - We believe in understanding the local culture of the market we are entering into, and we like to understand the local culture and climate. To gain a better understanding of the area we visit local art galleries to get a better understanding of art and architecture and we spend time with many local experts to get to know the local way of life and their values. This deep understanding of new markets allows us to create designs that are not just practical and meet local requirements but also resonate with the locals.

  • Regulatory Compliance – Each country has its own set of rules and regulations that we need to follow, and we stay up to date with the latest building standards in each market by working with local experts. This is so we can ensure compliance in our projects. By working with local experts, we can tap into their knowledge of the local area to mitigate risks and delays ahead of time.

  • Client Centricity – Understanding our client’s vision and requirements is key especially when working with clients from diverse backgrounds and we invest time in building strong relationships with our clients. We take the time to get to know them, their background, objectives, and design preferences.

How does SP3 London manage communication and project alignment across different time zones and locations?

Good communication is vital when working on international projects, here at SP3 London we use a range of strategies to enable us to collaborate across time zones and locations worldwide by:

  • Working Flexibly – We work outside of the normal 9-5 hours to accommodate our clients globally so we can effectively communicate no matter the time.

  • Using advanced communication tools – We like to use the latest communication tools such as video conferencing, instant messaging, and project management software to facilitate real-time collaboration. This allows us to stay in touch with our project teams wherever they are in the world.

  • Clear communication protocols – We set out clear communication protocols at the start of each project, so everyone knows how long to expect a response.

  • Regular project updates – We update everyone involved in the project to build trust and alignment on our projects.

What are some of the key learnings from SP3 London’s international projects?

We have learned a lot through our many international design projects. Client satisfaction is top of our agenda, and we have refined our processes, so each project is tailored to the client and not just meets but exceeds their expectations.

We have come to understand that understanding the local climate and culture is key to our designs being not just beautiful but functional. As part of this we have also learned to select the right materials that are available and sustainable in our project locations to keep costs down and show our commitment to sustainability.

By applying these learnings, we are ready to deliver great design solutions worldwide.

What’s next for SP3 London’s international design?

We will continue to strive for winning more and more projects on the international design scene taking more projects than we have done today. As we move into more conceptual design work, we will be able to offer clients more solutions earlier in the project lifecycle.

As we expand our reach, we will look to enter emerging markets such as Saudi Arabia and South of France. These regions offer great opportunities for design development.
